Sighting Lions at Gir National Park

Gir National Park is the only place where you can find the asiatic lions in their natural habitat. The Gir National Park is open for visitors to explore and enjoy the thrilling safari experience at two different zones – one is Sasan Gir National park & another is Devalia Safari park aka Gir Interpretation Zone.

All of you must have seen lions as well as other wild animals & birds in the zoo, but witnessing the wild beast in their natural habitat is something words can never explain.

Unlike the zoo animals are not in cages, they are roaming freely around you giving you goosebumps.

Difference between Gir National Park & Devalia Safari Park

Gir National park is like a natural wildlife sanctuary which is open for a limited number of people with prior permission, while Devalia Safari Park is more like an open zoo to reduce the overloading of Gir National Park. So, it is like a controlled version of Gir National park.

You will be taken for safari in an open jeep with a capacity of 7 people if you are opting  for Gir National Park while you will be taken in a closed bus with a capacity of 32 people in a closed bus.

About Exploring the Jungle of Sasan Gir

If you want to go for a jungle trail in an open jeep in Sasan Gir National park, you need to take prior online permits @ http://girlion.in/ or contact us to make online Gir Lion safari booking in advance.

For online Gir Lion Safari booking you need to enter the identity card details of each person and all of those details will be verified at the counter.

There are 3 main slots for the lion safari:

  • Morning: 6:00 to 9:00 am & 9:00 am to 12:00 noon
  • Evening: 3:00 to 6:00 pm

The maximum possibility to witness the lion is from 6 to 9 in morning as the temperature is low during early morning time allowing the lions to roam around freely.

Make sure you reach 30 minutes prior to your time-slot mentioned in your online permit.

You are supposed to reach 30 min before the starting time mentioned in your permit.

Once you are all set in a jeep, enjoy the 2-3 hours of jungle trails with your near & dear ones where spotting the king of jungle is pure luck.

About ‘Devalia Safari Park

Devalia Safari Park is located approx 15 km from the Sinh Sadan. You need to hire a personal vehicle like some auto rickshaw to reach the Devalia park entry point if you don’t have a car with you.

As this is a comparatively smaller area, spotting the lion is almost certain. The duration of the safari tour is approx 30-40 minutes. There is an enclosure in this park which has leopards.

There’s no need for prior reservation or permit like Gir National Park.
